Philosophy

John Carroll, in founding Windmill Therapeutic Training Unit, was careful to ground the service in a Social and Therapeutic model based in a Humanistic approach where unconditional positive regard is Windmills core value.  This model is reinforced by Windmill employing a Human Rights approach.   Respect, dignity and equality are the basis of our work and Windmill enforces a No Tolerance of Abuse Policy.

The concept of unconditional positive regard dictates that each person, no matter what their presentation or history, is listened to, is given a platform from which to be heard, is truly heard and is treated in a positive and respectful manner.

The therapeutic relationship is understood by Windmill as the most important tool the worker has when working with the individual.  The therapeutic relationship is understood to be a reciprocal relationship, one of mutual respect and trust, one in which the worker is not the all-powerful one, but one where real equality exists.
