The Unit is
located in Wexford Town and its aims and goals is to prepare adults with
learning and behavioural difficulties to take on board challenges of the modern
world and to promote confidence and awareness, to focus on the whole person, to
maximise their full potential and to promote personal and practical skills.
The focus is on
ABILITY and not DISABILITY and aims to attain an inner peace and self
discipline, enabling the trainees to develop as a whole person in their own
right through participation and involvement in a wide range of modules and work
related skills in an environment which incorporates both therapy and training
with a professional, committed and dedicated team of workers. The unit is
currently meeting the needs of between 30/35 trainees from Wexford and
surrounding areas, with additional teachers, tutors, trainers, core staff and
ancillary workers making a total utilisation
of 60 for this Service.
The programme
embraces such areas as Literacy, Remedial, Communications, Relationships, Group
and Project work, Visual Aids, Current Affairs and a wide range of Craft and
Work related skills, as well as tapping on the resources of the wider community
such as Drama, Role-Play, Swimming and Physical Education. We are particularly
delighted about the way in which these activities have been linked with the
resources in the wider community realising that it is an essential part of
Human Growth and Development for our trainees to be put in touch with their
environment.
